There's something really wonderful about being able to go back and see the early work of a fantastic director like Reichardt - it's loose and messy in good and bad ways, and it speaks to the same type of narratives that pop up later in films like Night Moves and Wendy and Lucy. Last weekend, I finally got the chance to rent Kelly Reichardt's River of Grass, her first film, which has been newly restored and is now available online. In the meantime, I've been watching some much quieter films. If you're looking for something to watch this weekend, that's probably your answer. This week may have included Star Wars Day, but Star Wars is being totally overshadowed by another juggernaut - Captain America: Civil War, which comes out today and has been getting all-around fantastic reviews.
